Stage fright

We attended Nikolai’s first dance recital last evening. The dress rehearsal the evening before was a smashing success, as Peggy tells us, so we were looking forward to it.

Alas, things did not go as smoothly for the performance. As we waited for the music to start, we could hear crying back stage. Yep, it was Nikolai. But the group of four, two boys and two girls, did make it out on stage. Madison, Nikolai’s partner tried to do the dance but she got no help. The other little girl was in a similar state as Nikolai; the other boy just stood there. They were motioned off stage. I had hopes of them regrouping and trying again in a little bit but that did not happen.

Fortunately Peggy got a couple pictures from rehearsal. Nikolai was looking dapper indeed!

Poor kid! Guess once was enough for him, eh?

Oh no! That can be pretty scary for some little kids when there are suddenly a bunch of people watching them in an audience, especially if they don’t really like being the center of attention anyway (as we learned at his last birthday party). ;) He and Miss Lindsay are quite the opposites when it comes to that, what with her hamming it up on stage the way she does! Oh well, perhaps he’ll grow out of it, or maybe he’s just not destined for a life in showbusiness (which would be no bad thing these days).
He still looked dapper indeed in that spiffy costume.

It was actually the other little girl crying backstage, not Nikolai. He was fine until she lost it…

I stand corrected. He certainly had a lot of tears to wipe away when they did get on stage.

It is quite daunting to perform that first time! Big hugs to the little hobbit from Auntie Aubri - it does get easier, if not exactly more comfortable for us shy ones! :-)
